Psalm 8 : 5 "a little lower than God"

The Psalmist is recorded as having stated that man was created a little less than God, which in Hebrew is Elohim.

.ותחסרהו מעט מאלהים וכבוד והדר תעטרהו
For thou hast made him a little lower than God,

and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

The Septuagint Greek translation reads differently. It is here that “Elohim” ‘God’ אלהים was first rendered αγγελους 'angels' instead of θεος 'God.'

ηλαττωσας αυτον βραχυ τι παρ' αγγελους

δοξη και τιμη εστεφανωσας αυτον.

Here the Hebrew אלהים is faithfully rendered Jumala 'God.' (Note: The sequence -lda is the Finnish ablative case. In this context in Jumalalda, Jumalalta in Modern Finnish, literally means "off of God" and corresponds in meaning to "than God.")
